SS#9380

Measured values for Rockwell B & C, Shore A & D, Brinell and Mohs were determined for fifteen samples that were presented to our class for hardness testing.  Our tests revealed PVC to be the softest material tested by the class with a value of 74 Sd.  High Speed Steel was discovered to be the hardest material tested in our class with a value of 64.9 Rc.  A diamond bit and a load of 150 kg was used in determining the values for Rockwell C.  A 1/16” steel ball bit and a 100 kg load was used to determine the values for Rockwell B.  The hardness test practiced in class, were a simulation in determining a material’s conformance to its related design specification.
